Sessions
at the Fall 2008 OKAIRP conference will focus on a variety of issues including a
roundtable follow-up discussion on the progress of the Achieving the Dream
initiative, new IPEDS reporting changes, reporting practices using the Banner
system, and a progress report on the Oklahoma Education Information System
(OEIS). We are pleased to have
David Gleason from the
University
of
Texas
in
Dallas
deliver our keynote address. We
are also grateful to Rose State College for hosting this event at their new
Professional Training and Education
Center! Early registration cost for the
Fall 2008 conference is $50; late registration is $60.

Address: “Learning to Think
With More Than One Hat”

Although
everyone thinks (that’s a no brainer), not everyone thinks as
productively and effectively as they can.
This session will introduce innovative and creative approaches
about thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
You will be challenged to put on SIX different thinking hats and
try them on for size!
Biography
David is the
Assistant Director for Employee Development and Employee Relations at
the
University
of Texas
in Dallas,
Texas. He has over twenty years
experience working in the public and private sector for profit,
not-for-profit, government, and academia. His
work experience includes training, teaching, community education,
program management, counseling, planning, demographic research, and
quality assurance auditing. He
is a certified Achieve Global Trainer, certified EEO Compliance Trainer,
and experience as a mediator for managing workplace conflict.
He also is a member of the American Society for Training and
Development.

This session is a follow-up
to the Achieving the Dream Student

presentation at the Spring 2008 OKAIRP conference.

office targeting efforts to build institution-wide commitment to improve
the assessment of the student learning process.

This session
will provide an update and review of current and upcoming matters
that include the following: reformat
of UDS record layouts, OEIS implementation, and IPEDS changes. Target
audience:
any institutional research/effectiveness/assessment office
wishing to gain an understanding of the current and upcoming
issues related to the unitized data system (UDS), IPEDS changes,
and implementation of the Oklahoma Education Information System
(OEIS) data warehouse resource.
“IPEDS
Race/Ethnicity and Degree Classification Changes”
Tom Hardy, Director of Institutional Research, University of
Oklahoma

(OUHSC). Tom is also
a certified IPEDS trainer with the Association for Institutional
Research (AIR).
This
presentation will discuss the changes in the IPEDS reporting of
the new Race/Ethnicity and Degree Classification categories and
challenges in collecting the Race/Ethnicity data. Timelines
differ for each of the categories and each survey completed.
Current reporting for race/ethnicity consists of seven
categories, whereas the new reporting consists of nine categories.
This session will also discuss the following changes with the
First-Professional category:
1)
the removal of this category from the Degree
Classification and 2) new breakdowns required for the Doctoral
degree reporting. Target
audience:
any institutional research/effectiveness/assessment office
seeking information on IPEDS new reporting changes and ethnicity
classification categories.
